Where we are

Mjejane Private Game Reserve sits on the southern border of Kruger National Park, along the Crocodile River in Mpumalanga. It is part of Greater Kruger, and the boundary between the reserve and the park is unfenced, so the animals move freely between the two.

The lodge is on River Road, on a quiet erf of only nine homes, each with 2,400 m² of its own garden and bush. It looks straight over the river into Kruger.

Getting here

From Johannesburg it is about four hours on the N4. The Mjejane Game Reserve turning is on the left, just past the Hectorspruit off-ramp. Flying in? Kruger Mpumalanga International (KMIA) is about 45 minutes away.

Stock up at Malelane Spar or Woolworths Food, or Komatipoort Spar, on your way in. The reserve charges a community levy per person per night and a road levy per vehicle at the gate; both go to conservation and the local community.

The lodge

The whole lodge is yours. There are two en-suite bedrooms in the main house and three private cottages, sleeping up to 10. Children and infants count towards the 10; that is a reserve rule. There is an infinity pool over the river, a 19 x 5 metre stoep, a big self-catering kitchen and a full solar and battery system, so there is no load shedding.

It is all on one level, with a ramp at the entrance and wheelchair-accessible showers. Check-in is from 14:00 with a lockbox, and check-out is at 10:00. Staff are on site on weekday mornings and Saturday mornings.

Game viewing from the stoep

All of the Big Five have been seen from the lodge. Elephants feed in the marula trees along the boundary fence and come down to the river, hippos are in the river all day and you will hear them at night, and lions are heard and seen from the stoep. Rhino and buffalo are regulars in the reserve; leopard is rarer, along the river.

The birding is excellent too, from African spoonbills and fish eagles to Goliath herons and woodland kingfishers.

Game drives and Kruger

For more, book a private game drive with a dedicated Mjejane guide and vehicle through us. There is a three-hour drive at sunrise or in the afternoon into sunset, and a full Kruger day from 05:30 to 14:00. Drives cover both Mjejane and Kruger.

If you would rather self-drive, Malelane Gate and Crocodile Bridge Gate into Kruger are both close by. Kruger entry fees are separate and paid at the gate.
